This seems unreal – but it’s true.

I just paid $2.00 total for a gift certificate for $25.00 to a local restaurant that I’ve wanted to try, but never really got around to checking out.  (My wife asked me, cynically, “How much was shipping and handling?”  My reply, “Free.  I printed the coupon right here“, and showed her the voucher worth $25.)

The only “catch”, if this could be considered a “catch”, is that you must spend $35 at the restaurant (and alcohol may not be included in the voucher – each restaurant determines that.  NOTE:  My voucher doesn’t say anything about alcohol not being included, so I assume it is…)

So, for a $35 dinner, this is what I’d pay:

• Total Price, with tax:  $37.10  (6% tax in MI)
• Tip of 20%:  $7
• Grand Total:  $42.10 — tax and tip included in this grand total.
• Subtract the $25 voucher….
• $42.10 – $25.00 = $17.10 out of pocket.

So, I’d pay $17.10 (of which $7 was tip, and $2.10 was tax — so, only $8 goes to the restaurant) for a dinner that would normally cost $42.10, grand total.

Oh yeah, plus whopping $2.00 I just spent on the voucher.  Make that $19.10 out of pocket for a dinner that would normally cost $42.10.

All that math made my head crazy.

Now, I’m hungry.

…and I have my voucher for $25 printed and sitting on my desk right now!
